Senior Quote

“Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work: You don’t give up.” -Anne Lamott

Art Proposal

I chose to respond to She Unnames Them by painting a dark unfamiliar staircase. From She Unnames Them, Eve is bold enough to walk away from God and I honestly encourage her to walk away from God and "[go] down the path away from the house." It is, sometimes, nice to see what's out there and be in the part of the "reality" or the world that you have never seen before. Give yourself chance to love and trust something else other than God, but you will eventually get your heart broken into pieces and never be able to put it back together. It's okay. You will learn invaluable lessons when you walk up the same staircase. It will be painful when you are physically and mentally injured (it is just matter of how far you went down), but it will be worthwhile experience when you come back "home." So, my response is that you can leave anytime you desire to, but there is, always, way to comeback.

Art

My definition of "art" is a production that is appealing to our five senses. It can be more meaningful than it was expected in the first place or irrelevant despite the producer's insightful thoughts. Art neither includes everything nor exclude certain concepts. It depends on how we interpret it and make connection with our thoughts and experiences. Just like people value different ideas and materials, the value of art depends on people's perspective. Consequently, if a "thing" communicates its original meaning and its fixed worthiness with the audience, it becomes art to whoever accepts its "message".

Worldview Analysis of She Unnames Them

The worldview of She Unnames Them is postmodern. Humans have the power over the universe and do not talk with God as they used to.

The six worldview characteristics:
★God and the Universe- the quote "You and your father[...] It's been really useful, but it doesn't exactly seem to fit very well lately" illustrates that the father is God and He exists; however, God no longer has control over the universe and humans no longer listen to God.
★Humanity and Identity- Humans have power over the universe.
★Conflict and Suffering- "I could not chatter away as I used to do, taking it all for granted" shows that the conflict is the author wants God to talk with her/him.
★Hope and Redemption- "Goodbye, dear. I hope the garden key turns up" explains that the Garden of Eden is the ultimate hope which suggesets that there is no hope.
★Values and Relationship- The relationship between humans and God is slowly washing away. From the text, "One of my reasons for doing what I did was that talk was getting us nowhere." explains that God and humans used to have good communications, which was valued; however, the relationshop is no longer valid and valued.
★Truth and Reality- According to postmodernism, humans no longer need and want God and they eventually become gods of the universe.

Worldview of the song American Pie by Don McLean

Even though McLean uses Christian terminology, the song American Pie is Secular Humanist.

The six worldview characteristics:
★God and the Universe: From the song, "The father, son, and the holy ghost, They caught the last train for the coast" illustrates that God is gone.

★Humanity and Identity: Humans do not have control over the world.
★Conflict and Suffering: The people search for music to save them. "Do you believe in rock 'n roll Can music save your mortal soul..."

★Hope and Redemption: "The jester stole his thorny crown" explains how Christ is not people's hope and redemption. On the other hand, the music is their ultimate hope.
★Values and Relationships: Again from the song, "if I had my chance That I could make those people dance And, maybe, they'd be happy for a while" seems to explain people should value happiness in their lives.

★Truth and Reality: Even though the role of the music is like "savior", music is not and it is slowly fading away.

Pick one of the six worldview traits and find text in Paradise Lost that aligns with the trait and points to the Christian worldview.

Paradise Lost points to the Christian worldview by stating that God created everything in the beginning. In the beginning of Paradise Lost Milton stated "In the beginning how the heav'ns and Earth Rose out of Chaos: Or if Sion Hill Delight thee more, and Siloa's Brook that flow'd Fast by the Oracles of God..."Also, Milton later states "Through Gods high sufferance for the tryal of man, by falsities and lyes the greatest part Of mankind tget corrupted to forsake God thir Creator..." Furthermore, the readers are able to tell that God governs the universe whe Milton says "powers that earst in Heaven sat on Thrones Though thir Names in heav'nly Records..."

What worldview explains the universe in The Wizard of Oz?

Postmodernism explains the universe in The Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of Oz combines all worldviews; each character represent certain worldview. Dorothy represents "farmers" in 19th century. The Cowardly Lion represents Secular Humanism. The Scarecrow represents pantheism and the Tin Man represents atheism.
